  • New style toyota antifreeze

Called to my local toyota dealer for 2x 5 litre bottles of red antifreeze £45, then the guy behind the counter said why not buy 20 litres for £50 so I thought "makes sence" as I can sell the 10 litres I have left to one of you lot if you want it.

Anyway I've just opened it & the contents is pink & you need to add deionized water to dilute to what ever protection you require.

I always thought you didn't add water to these engines as the premixed red coolant i bought in the past was all you put in.

    Any thoughts?

If its not broke don't fix it.

The original red Toyota coolant is diluted to -36'c protection.

Well if I mix it at 50% = -40 degrees then I've bought enough to do the surf 4 times .
How long does antifreeze last in a sealed container?
If its not broke don't fix it.

I would imagine if in a sealed container probably indefinitely.

Now you mention it, no it doesn't.
Sure it will be ok though as I did say it was for a surf import.

I don't get it. It's red and there's 20 litres of it so why not call it red 20?

op Si "called at my local Toyota dealer for 2 x 5 liters of red coolant"

If I had made the effort to drive to my local Toyota dealer to purchase the genuine forlife coolant, would not expect the parts person to offer & sell a cheap inferior product.

we all know how critical the cooling is in our Surfs.

                  Just saying, my opinion.

Next thing you know dealers will be selling pattern oil filters etc

Right it's going back in the morning, can't risk it as I've been reading some very interesting & technical thread so it's "genuine toyota red" for me & they can have this pink $hit back.

                      That is all.

Sounds like a very unsuspecting n misleading sales pitch ploy to me Si ...

I never thought I'd see the day when a Yorkshireman and a Scot agreed that the most sensible course of action was to take something back to the shop and ask for it to be replaced with half as much of the same thing for twice the price....
