  • ATF sump leak

I appear to have ATF leaking from where the sump joins the rest of the vehicle.

I have cleaned and observed and think the seal needs replacing so will clean both mating areas and use some gasket paste as a seal as I do not think there is an actual seal available for the 3.0l Gen3 ?

Obviously I ill drain the ATF and replace. However, while it is clear that there are a loads od 10mm bolts that need removing but how do you get the ATF filler pipe undone or away to drop the sump pan off the body ?

    Cheers + ATVB

The dipstick tube is in two parts, the lower half is welded to the sump pan and the upper half is a push fit into the lower half with an 'O' ring seal.

2nd and 3rd gen auto 'box sumps, including the '90's Lexus V8s are the same shape/bolt pattern.
There are rubber gaskets available in the U.S. but I haven't seen them over here yet.

      Thanks that is brilliant.

So the sump and attached pipe should just pull off as a unit.

I am going see if I can source a gasket too..But the link is also perfect, to know they are avaiable.

      Many thanks and best regards.

Yes, as you lower the sump pan the two halves of the dipstick tube will just seperate.
You can of course remove the top half beforehand, there's just one bolt securing it to the engine block.

              Philip

I got them from the link Vince provided above, when I had some other stuff to get for my truck. Postage from there is expensive so made sense to get two just in case.

I was going to leave the spare with Vince to see if he can get some made up locally for when he does the Lexurf conversions.

Indeed - I think it will be good old gasket paste.

More than happy pay $6 for a ATF sump gasket but not the $80 for delivery !!!

I would pay £20 all in if someone actually sold them in UK - got to be an opportunity for someone with talent !

PS as the true novice I assume the ATV fluid is drained at operating temp like the engine oil ?

FYI - Just ordered one off Amazon.

Just less than £13 delivered, but will have to wait 2 or 3 weeks to arrive. But I am in no rush.

                      Excellent - thank you.

I am a total mechanical novice but I am really looking forward to getting stuck in with this truck....As long as it is nothing too serious !!

I still dread the first MOT in my ownership - due 1st July !!!

The gasket seal arrived already.....Just need to drain the ATF, remove and refit.

                        Cheers + ATVB
