  • Replacing aerial mast. Easy, right? Err...

    ...nah. Not for me

Changed a radiator and coolant without one issue.

Change an aerial mast and it's shit from the word go.

All I needed to do was loosen the old, let it pull out and carry on replacing with new.

But it had no nut. Just a cheap plastic bolt. The ones with four notches and not hex sides. I have the tool but it was a PITA to get out and chewed it to death.

And the old aerial won't just come out. It's (the very bottom) stuck in and I'm going to have to dismantle the wing just to get it out. The aerial is snapped off right at the base.

Seriously ####ed off with what should have been a 5 min job.

Off to spend money on the wheels. Those #######s better not give me grief

I don't think you have to take the wing off, just the arch liner. Mine had also snapped off at the base and had to be dismantled. But look on the positive side, at least you can service the ariel motor whilst it's apart.
Also I found long nosed pliers worked well for the nut, just have to remember to keep lots of pressure on them so they don't slip

I used Circlip Pliers but in the end I got ####ed off and just grabbed it, with grips, and turned it out

Not happy that an easy job turned into a mission. But that's cars for you

If I'd known this would have happened...I would have just bought a flexi aerial and be done with it.

Took it out of the wing to inspect.

It was never coming out in one go. Maybe seized or something.

Dismantled it and readied it for the new aerial (which still hasn't arrived).

Screwing the chrome top not back on and it basically crumbled!

Ripped the whole thing out, in a fit, and ordered the flexi one from RT.

What a waste of money and time.
