Can't really say yet Mick - fitted them Friday and took it round the block to make sure everything works ok. Need to bed in for a fair few miles before I can stomp on them properly.

Have emailed EBC to see if there is a pad that doesn't have such a stupid amount of overhang.

Will let you know what they say.

    Rob.

Is it me or does it look as though the pad is sitting further out than the disc?

Also, I can't remember but think my pads aren't green. Did you get the EBC 4x4 pads or different ones?
      Oh Nana, what's my name?

No it's not you - it's the reason I started this thread!

The early surfs take a different pad to the later ones, but a lot of suppliers just stock the one set of pads for both versions of truck. When you fit the early pads to the later trucks the pads sit further out from the disc, leaving a ridge on the pad where it doesn't contact the disc.

These pads are DP6807 pads, as listed for the 3.0 diesel 1994 4runner.

The image Nev posted here of the 2 different styles of pad seems to suggest that the DP6992 pads will fit my surf properly.

Got ya. What year is your truck? Mine is going in on Wednesday for some track rods, I'll try and call the garage and get them to look at my pads / discs. But, I have replaced all items: calipers, discs and pads not too long ago. Not sure if this makes any difference, but mine is a '94. I remember when I first got the truck that I booked it in for pads as they were making a noise. The noise was there because the pads were worn, but there was a lip on the end of the pad where the pads were sitting further out like your picture.. I guess it had replaced discs at some point and they fitted the wrong ones?

ps the worst thing I did to that truck was lift the front end using BJ spacers. I've got a full 4" ozzy lift kit sitting in the garage here, which is useless.

Mines an 'L' plate so 94 - 95 I think. I always use the 94 year as it avoids any confusion with 3rd gens.

I'm pretty sure both Milners and Roughtrax just supply the one pad for all years on the 2nd gen. I think if you buy pads for the ifs pick ups you can get the correct pad, but am not 100% - roughtrax list a BR006 pad to fit the pickups that use the same calipers as the pre 1991 surfs.(which doesn't make sense to me as they list the pick up as using 302mm discs - the pre 91 surfs used a 289mm disc)

I'm going to order some EBC DP6992's and see if they fit correctly.

Sent email to EBC - he requested vehicle details.

                I sent this:

                To: Andrew Bartosiak
Subject: Re: Form submission from EBC website - Contact Page Form

                Hi Andrew,

                My car is a 94 / 95 'L' plate Toyota Hilux Surf. KZN130 3.0 TD.

It is identical to the 93 - 95 UK spec 3.0 TD Toyota 4runner.

It has 291mm diameter discs, 25mm thick. The calipers have 4 x 45mm diameter pistons.

The earlier 4runner had 289mm diameter, 20mm thick discs. with smaller pistons (40mm iirc )

The pads are practically identical for both models, with the exception that the later pads are 5mm wider (looking at caliper from the side), to allow the friction material to move 5mm inwards towards the hub.

I believe that is the difference between your DP6807 pad and your DP6992 pad.

The USA spec 4runner (V6 petrol model) has the same front brake setup as my vehicle.

There are 2 different Toyota part numbers for the pads:

                289mm disc 20mm thick (early LN130 models 89-91) 04465-35040 which has superseded to YZZ57

                291mm disc / 25mm thick (later LN130 models all KZN130 models 91 -95) 04465-35140

                Thanks,

                Rob.

Nice one bro. Post back your findings

How long do these pads last? Mine must have done over 20k miles, haven't checked their condition but all seems well. How do you know when to replace them without looking (is there a way?).

If anyone reads this and decides to go for the DP6992 pads be aware that they fit very close to the caliper mounts. Make sure they clear them.

No they fit mine ok.( just.)

What it looks like to me is that the original pads have a different shape for the inner and outer pads, whereas the ebc ones are basically supplied as 4 'outers'.

                                I'll post some pics later.
