  • Help - Shock absorber info Please

Hello everyone, I hope you are well?

Today my surf has had its first Mot since I bought it, the garage has failed it saying "Rear shock absorber has serious fluid leak". The man said the metal dish thing at the top was all corroded and he will have to cut it off.

So I want to replace as much as I can while he is doing it, as I knew the suspension was knackered anyway.

I have looked on Roughtrax and seen the rear shock absorbers, springs and the top mounting plate/metal dish things he mentioned.

Are these the 3 parts I need or are there some other bits as well?
Does the shock absorber sit inside the spring with the mounting plate on top?

Dont forget you are dealing with a complete idiot here, who knows nothing about how my surf works, although I can now give her a service myself!

    Thanks for any help, Stuart.

To completely renew the rear suspension, you need these items:
    http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=16&cid=1000&vid=1509
    http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=16&cid=1000&vid=1442

All nuts washers and rubbers are included with the shocks. (But not the lower mounting bolts, these need to be re-used)

      Thanks Bushwhacker

If im replacing just the rear shocks and springs can I get the 2" lifted ones or should I just stick to the standard ones?
Im wondering if I can raise the back suspension now and then raise the front ones later on?

      Thanks.

You can do that no problem. The truck will look like a hotrod for a while though.

The 3rd gen rear suspension looks like this by the way.....

The front suspension has the shocks inside the springs.

          Thanks for the help Bushwhacker

Do you think the 2" rear shocks by "Rancho" or "Munroe" are the best ones?

Can't comment really as I've never used them.
If I had to choose between the two though, it would be Monroe.
