  • Dodgy? Advice please:-)

    Hi all,
I've sold my LC just now to a Bulgarian (looking to buy a Surf)- nice guy - although he turned up with two other guys which was a bit intimidating as I am the only person in the house

He is a dealer and intends to ship to Bulgaria. He paid cash up front (whole amount £1650).

The yellow section (V5c) sealer part was completed and signed by him and he kept the rest of the V5 - not signed by me. I have the completed section.

Although he could have driven it away (his pals were sorting out a day's insurance on-line whilst there) he asked if he could keep it at my house for a couple of weeks and a car loader will pick it up. I agreed.

He then asked that when the loader came to pick it up that I drove it down to the Shell petrol station just down the road from me on the A45 where it could be loaded on lorry. I agreed.

Seems all very strange - am I missing something - a scam - after all, I have the money?:-)

        Lol!
You got me on that one!

Anyway, I think I posted this up before but can't find it...

I was selling my Monaro, a bloke phoned up on friday night and said he'd like to buy it and offered pretty much the asking price.
        Without seeing it.
He said a low loader would arrive on monday with a man with the cash.
Oh and he worked for a film company and would like to buy my car to be in a film.

        YEAH RIGHT!

After lots of agonising and working out what the scam could be I gave up.

The bloke arrived, we went to bank. They counted all the money. I said thanks, he started the car and drove it onto the low loader.

        Goodbye monaro. Hello Cash.

Turns out it was one of 2 that was filmed for Johnny English 2, but never made the cut.

The chap on the phone had said "we are after a RHD muscle car, as they can't get the machine gun out the window on the LHD ones...."

        Lol!

        S'all true.

So, yes, strange things do happen, doesn't mean it's dodgy.

        probably...

My name is still on the red bit but he has got that as he is a trader and only needed to complete the yellow section as per the instructions - I have the yellow section which im just about to post to DVLA - that a good idea if it goes pear shaped two weeks down the road. I let my insurance on it run out, and it still has tax - it is not my responsibility as a seller to ensure he is insured before he drives it away?

BTW - you got butchers fingers?!

                      re scams

i had someone once get in touch with me by email about a merc a was selling on autotrader, funny thing was he didn't want to come and see the car as he was please with all i had said about it and the price. said he will pay by paypal " safe payment method " and get someone to pick the car up and sign all the forms. sounded very dodgy to me
So done some research and it turns out to be a scam, he would have payed the payment to my paypal but probably pay in some extra hundreds, then contact you to say i have made a mistake could you send the extra back to my " scam account " at this point would close the payment due to no item turning up. and there you go

NEVER EVER ALLOW COLLECTION IN PERSON IF THEY PAY WITH PAYPAL!

Basically they say they never received the goods as there is no proof.
paypal and ebay will support the buyer always
                        be warned.

That is a typical Nigerian scam! THey offer compensation and say they will handle everything including collection and say they get let down then pay you extra to shell out for delivery and you loose everything.

                              Yeah, never trust those Hungaro-nigerians!

I once sold a boat to a guy in Aberdeen. He senta dodgy looking bloke in a Cortina with a towbar carrying a binbag full of cash. He gave me the cash and drove away with the boat. Never met the guy from Aberdeen, just his lackie with the Cortina. Worked out fine.
