  • Almost 1000 miles in three days

Just drove from home, to Lochgelly in Scotland to visit the sister and my Niece, then from there to Scarcroft in Leeds to see the nan quickly. By the time I had dinner and a cuppa I was too shattered I stayed there til this morning.

I left Saturday at around 7am after checking over the truck. I had torrential rain, snow blizzards and warm(ish) sunshine. I pulled one of the motorways around Liverpool area (I say that lightly) to get some breakfast NOT from a service station.. bumped into a fuel garage with cheaper Diesel and a cafe that did a full fry-up for less than £3 which wern't bad either.

I got 3/4 of the way to Scotland and realised my truck was getting around 220 miles to a tank. I worked this out to be around 19mpg which is clearly wrong even at just about 70mph. Turns out I hadn't unlocked the free wheeling hubs from the snow we had recently. Unlocking them got me 220 miles on 3/4 of a tank or around 60 - 80 miles more out of a tank which is around 22mpg which is quite a bit of difference.
I'm very pleased with the truck as usual. Keeping on top of maintenance pays off.
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

Lochgelly is just up the road, you should have dropped in for a cuppa.

I didn't know Alan! I suppose I should have mentioned it on here before I left.

If you want some nice roads to drive down, that A68 and A697 is pretty good, scenic and national speed limit too.

Following the thread, I just drove 1007 miles in 30 hours. And to cap it all, all the English were arses.

The only place where people have difficulty driving on the motorway was England... No one moves over to lane 1 when it's empty.
And there's no macaroon or tablet.
