  • Radweld/K-Seal/Silver Seal/CeLit - do any work?

Thankfully this isn't for my Surf but I have a tiny hole in the heater matrix of my kit car. Not enough to drip or cause water loss but enough to generate steam which fogs up the windscreen.
When the car is warm you can see steam coming off the heater core but not any sign of dampness anywhere.
There is a multitude of products claining to seal holes without blocking the rad or heater matrix - do any of them work?
I know the best repair is to replace the heater matrix but this is a sod to get out as it involves dashboard and fascia removal.
Any recommendations on a magic gunk?
    Thanks,
    Mark

All hole plugging additives will eventually f**k your engine's cooling system and eventually your engine.

bars is good, had a leak in my heater matrix on a cavalier. Put some in and 4 years on was still holding strong, it only reacts with air so doesn't go solid whilst still in the system.

I put some radweld in my surf when I knew the head was cracked, it did ease the water loss for a while. Its a bit risky though on a perfectly good engine. try find the leak. You might be able to spot weld it while its still on the car if you are lucky.

K seal seems to be the one recommended as a prevention and "possible " cure.

To avoid all doubt, I am not recommending the use of this,

but this is the one that time and time again is recommended by various mechanics and engineers.
I know a lot of places that put this into all their vehicles, lorries and machinery as a preventative measure. Supposedly can stop small leaks before they become big problems.

Bypass the matrix and put a jumper on.

A mate put something called steel seal into his mondeo recently that was using a lot of water, either head or head gasket. Seemed to have done the trick, covered about 2000 miles since. Not recommending it but if it has to be that way for whatever reason then that stuff seems to work ok short term, I have no information about long term issues with it!

                  Cheers

                  Ben

Hi and thanks for the advice. I could bypass the heater but it doesn't stop the screen from misting up. I think I will give either K Seal or Bars liquid a go. The cooling system isn't stressed on the Minari. The components are designed for a 4 seater family car being used in southern Italy. One bloke in a 700kg sports car is easy by comparison.
If it does or doesn't work, I will let you know.
