Just a bit of input from me here . These light systems Russell is descibing are replacement light bulbs and control system/difusser . They are not just bulbs . The bulbs themselves generaly are not to expensive , it is the unit needed to power the bulbs that cost the money .

If a Jag or Merc has a crash at the front and the light system is damaged it can cost up to £2000 to replace . Imagine having your car written off because the headlamps broken when its a few years old !

I must defend the price as being good for an aftermarket kit , not factory . I feel it was just a shock to most of you . I would myself pass at that price as I do not want it or need it , but if you want it it is a good price .

I replaced the lamps in both mine and my significant others with the cool blue units and they definetly show thing clearer and they seem to be true colours that are seen not a yellow tinged everthing, around £15 a pair from a local parts outlet. Would recomend putting better lamps in any vehicle as standard bulbs are made to a price not a quality.

I got some from my local accessories shop, direct replacement H4 bulbs, the pack says "for off road use only" but they are no britghter than HID lights, about the same IMHO. the cost.................£13.99!
p.s, I have been eating more carrots lately.

i got some tres nice looking LED sidelights from carcraft in rochdale - says white on the box but have that blue/green tinge about them - the company make matching interior/console lights - all direct plugin replacements.
sure they would compliment HID lighting with their colour

£12.99 a set but thats feck all when u've just bought HID's - i wuz a little schocked myself when i went to the counter to pay!!!

will try and scrounge a camera for a piccie!

Just ordered some 6500k H4 Xenons off ebay £8.49 all in. Don't know what they will be like but at that price not much different from standards.

secondly im not advertising as i know better than that cos most of you as seen in this thread are tight gits....

and was only pointing out how good the lights were and yes 299 is a lot of money for lights... BUT the price as pointed out is !!!!!! cheap compared to the others on the market...

but hey each to there own, i have tried the aftermarket coulored bulbs and xenons and they just dont even compare to the gas discharge lights in output and quality...

It's not an easy thing to decide to spend this much money on something that is really just a collection of bits and pieces but it's an important safety issue.

Driving at night is considerably more hazardous than driving in natural daylight so I think its worth the £679 (I'd rather it cost £299) as long as the system is 100% legal and greatly improves your road vision at night.

You can spend a lot of money on these these things and end up with a system that looks good but doesnt actually produce much more useable light because the bulbs are not properly focused when installed in the headlights. The light output needs to be in the 3500-5000K range because the human eye is most sensitive to the yellow to white part of the spectrum. Bulbs that produce a noticably blue light (over 5000K) might be a lot more powerful but the increased output is not fully visible to the human eye so youre paying for something you can't use.
