  • Front grille project

I had a spare grille, to which I gave a lashing of Hammerite.

    Which do you prefer..?

    Black is a looker!

You need to paint that centre strip under the numberplate as well though to balance the overall effect.
Oh and get rid of the make-up mirror.

      Looks good!

I want to find a spare 3rd gen grille (with clips!) cheap so I can work on one too.

I was thinking of going with the "Satoshi Grille Mod" or my own variation thereof.

I agree with Vince about the black underneath, clear indicators would finish it off too.

I'll have a look at painting the strip tomorrow if it stays dry and keep an eye out for some clear indicators. Good ideas thanks!

              Hi Surfboy

Which hammerite did you use? how well did it cover? brush or spray can?

I ask because I'm wanting to paint all the chrome bits on my surf (bumpers are a little worse for wear and I'm not keen on bling) and am trying to find the best paint for it.

I'm looking to do something like this...

              cheers

              Steve

It was actually a Ronseal (or similar, I can't remember) hammered paint, not a Hammerite brand, but it looks the same to me. I don't know how hard wearing it will be or if it chips easily.

I only rubbed the existing paint a bit and ended up with about three coats by brush, with a light sanding between. I thinned the paint a bit to make it flow more easily and to get into the nooks and crannies more easily.

You may want to do a trial before you do all that though!

What I'd do (if I hadn't satin blacked the whole thing)

That's what I'm doing (or something similar) with the original one now. The chrome strip comes off. So I don't know whether to leave the surround in silver and leave the logo silver with the black grilles or do it all in black.

The freezing effect of my aircon gas.. um, escaping, shrunk and crinkled the chrome effect!
