  • radiator knackered?

    Hi

Steam just started pouring out of my surf.

It's coming from the part with the radiator valve on. Even with my limited knowledge I presume thats the radiator.

It seems to be on the very bottom pipe/connection that goes to the engine.

Check its not your drain valve letting by slighty, could be an easy cheap fix, dont dump the Rad untill you know exactly where it is leaking from....

Looks to me as all you need is a new Radiator filler cap From Roughtrax, make sure you clean all the sealing surfaces. Give it a go...

Better to buy a genuine one from Toyota. You can't skimp in such an important area.

Ive narrowed it down to the rubber pipe joint connector as in the picture

I think I need about 3 or 4 inches of rubber pipe

Where can I get this from and what type do I need?

            Cheers in advance.

Or a local motor factors should be able to sort you out.

You will need to ask/search for coolant hose.

                  IIRC you need 5/8" id.

As you only need a few inches it might be worth asking a local garage to see if they could give you a short length for cash
You will also need a few jubilee clips to replace the hose clips you take off.
Don't forget that you will need to top up the coolant you have lost and of course the coolant you lose when the hose is replaced.

16mm (5/8") heater hose. There's four short pieces in that area, so replace all of them and thoroughly clean all the metal parts. Also use a sealant called Loctite, Aviation Form A Gasket. Just a thin coating around all connections will do.
