A possibly silly question

Yes I have tried the wonder of google before I get ranted at!

Having read the various descriptions of the 2/4WD systems none seem to match whats in my surf (N reg so mk3?)- auto box and then the second lever with just L-N-H (front to back) and the 4wd button on the side...

Im sure it very simple but beyond me...

The lever only works in H-N-L

4wd high ratio from the switch on the shifter, leave the lever alone, this works the solonoid on the back of the t/case.

Shifting into low ratio on the lever automatically works the solonoid via the 4wd ECU, you don't need to press the button.

Thanks for that, I'm glad I haven't got some strange variant- one thing though, did all mk3s have a diff fitted as having used it only over the past few days it does sometimes feel like the back is 'jumping' out a bit on icy corners?

Most have 3, earlier ones have 2.
