hi I am taf from Wales wonder if aney body could help me i have only just registered so i am still trying to work out how to post a thread but my problem is I have just purchased a surf ssrg 19.91 model I purchased it on the 7.8.04 it had to go back into the garage I purchased it forms workshop fore days to sort out oil leaks and when I got it back about two days later I discovered that they had put water and antifreeze in instead of coolant so I went back to the garage and told them my concerns as I had been led to believe you put straight coolant in them and the bloke in the workshop said that's bull sh*to its fine its ok trust me well I couldn't rest so I went to Toyota and they said straight coolant so I bought the coolant and was going to put it in but two days ago the head went the rad had a tiny split in it from the pressure and it was boiling back I am no mechanic but I think the head is gone i am gutted. when I bought the vehicle I knew that the heads can go because I had done a bit of reading on the website so I asked if the head is covered and the sales man said yes but don't worry its all been done its fine nothing will go rong so I thwart great no probes so I paid the five grand asking price but when I phoned him and told him that it had broken down he denied saying the head was covered and said it is only covered fore a head gasket do you know where I stand as a customer ? also is a reconditioned head a waste of time as I would prefer to fit a new head do you know where I can get one as I don't want to get ripped off I saved long and hard to buy my surf fore me and my family and I don't know where to turn I am totally gutted I would be very grateful fore any info that you can provide thanks

Welcome Taf
Sorry to hear of your bad news . You have , by law , a 3 month gaurentee on your vehicle .Several members on here have had cylinder head failure within that time and successfully had them replaced by dealer at no cost . A NEW head only should be fitted with new bolts and a new head gasket of course . New thermostat and a new rad cap are a recommendation as well as a full coolant system flush .

He is taking the p**s.
Never mind the warranty, you are covered under the sales of goods act and for a major fault to occur within 3 weeks then the vehicle is not of merchantable quality.
Phone him and tell him so. If you get no joy, I would go straight to the citizen's advice bureau and get the name of someone in the trading standards dept. You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

thanks fore the advice if that is the case its a weight of my mind as I haven't had a full nights sleep in days who wants to shell out five grand and then have to fit a new head when I cant really afford it I thwart that I would be protected by law that's why I went to a dealer in the first place is it right that a new head is £ 800 quid or is there some where I can get it cheaper as that price is direct from ToyotaTAF

Plus the cost will be HIS problem not yours , except you may wish to pay for the thermostat and rad cap as these I would recommend changed aswell as Timing belt whilst apart for head work .
