  • what do you think of this?

Hi guys, it's been a while, and the time has come for me to fill a void in my life and empty my wallet again lol!

I'm seriously thinking about buying this 3rd gen, as it seems to be an absolute minter.

The only thing im a bit unsure of is the 140k on the clock, I've asked the guy and yes it is in miles, not km's, so my question is does that mileage seem a lot? It's going to be used as a daily driver, covering just short of 200 miles 5 times a week on the motorway on my daily commute, and I will continue to keep it well maintained.

The dealer have fitted and brand need Radiator, this is not mentioned in the advert.

One thing I know, when it gets warmer, I will be running it on SVO like I did my last surf.

your comments and thoughts will be greatly apriciated.

    1000 miles a week in a surf?
Do you work for Shell/Esso/BP or have a Fuel Card?
Even so, you're gonna wear stuff out pretty quick on those miles.
i wouldn't even contemplate it. There are better commuting vehicles.

Why did he fit a new rad ? I'd be looking at the cooling system very carefully ...

1000 miles a week is a fair bit to be putting on a 17 year old truck - personally I'd get myself a little diesel runabout rather than hammering a gas guzzling monster !

Life is too important to take seriously !

m reg that's 94 /95 isn't it ? and although it is a higher spec model than the one I just got it's nearly twice the price.

Mine is a 94 imported in 2005 and was approx £2,250

I completely new to surf's and know zilch, but I wouldn't pay that ( just a minor point the wife says she doesn't like the silver colour)

I did get the mileage wrong, I do 100 a day, not 200, but Thanks for pointing out that it is a lot for a 17 year old motor, that was an oversight, as im lije a kid in a sweetshop!!

I know the fuel will be more than my current motor, but I have budgeted for that.

I agree, the price does seem a little expensive, but could that be a reflection on how good a condition this vehicle is ?

I disagree with your wife, I like the colour lol!

At the end of the day a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. (and it does look in good condition)

If you really like it, then buy it and enjoy it.

You should see what people pay for knackered landrovers.

As I said before I can't really advise you as I don't have much knowledge on surf's, but I have always been happier with cars that I liked when buying than Cars that were a sensible/safe/economical choice

I may be wrong but i'm pretty sure ak motors have been discussed on here (in a not too favourable fashion) before, may be worth doing a search for related posts.

I would buy from AK (Ken Adam). He does good cash discounts too, IIRC. Apache had one from him, that petrol one, no?

100 miles a day... It's still a lot of fuel to get through though. I'd be looking for a baggy Mondeo/Focus soot blower to run into the ground. I used to have a 1000 mile a week commute for 6 months, when I had a then-10-year-old Mk2 Golf GTI.

Fuel were a lot cheaper then, though.

If you go for an eco car I recommend the Skoda Octavia or VW Passat 1.9 diesels.

If you decide on the Surf....

Scrw it, just get the Surf.

Yeah, don't recall any issues with AK. Mine was an honest motor - he even pointed out the faults, which I fixed I might add. It might be a bit pricey, but if you go waving cash you'll get money off. Diesels are always more expensive than petrols too for some reason, despite being less economical and less powerful. Weird.

I think (but I may be imagining it) there was one guy on here who bought one off him with ridiculously big wheels, which he didn't get on with and took back to swap for a closer to standard one.

I think the dodgy surf dealer you might be thinking of is that clown in Cyprus who ripped Ace Piker off good and proper.

Yup, sometimes nothing else will do....

It's a nice looking truck from the pics, price is ok from a dealer IMHO, you'll find cheaper for sure if you're patient, but you'll also find worse trucks for dearer and sometimes you just have to stop looking and just buy one that you like.

Another one you mean? I found one, borrowed a few bits off it to get other peoples trucks working and then ended up parted it out completely, so need another one now....

Thanks for your input guys, I was hoping to reply to each individual post but my phone has other ideas!

To give you an update, I have found a cheaper ssrg, with less miles, and more extras, and the deal is almost complete, but it's looking like it won't happen now until the new year.

I shall post some piccys once i have her.

                              Thanks again.
