I've had the timing belt done and the tensioner was that loose it was undone by hand.
Although I don't have a problem I've put K seal in with the coolant which will hopefully deal with any small issues.
going to do the drop links and the steering idler as soon as the parts come.

Erm, you'll have one soon. Put 'fully flush cooling system' on your to-do list.

        Why ?
It was recommended as a thing to do by our local garage and engineering works
They put it in all the diesel engines

Is this a mistake with the Surf engine

Will the K Seal coat the water pump impeller blades?
It is I assume activated by "air"?

Just because a garage recommend it does not mean its right. K-seal leaves the coolant all gritty as if it has fine gluey sanf in it. Awful. I would rather coolant be in my cooling system.
well, that was a bad idea!

K-seal is the nuts for hemorrhoids.

                So I'm told.

spoke to the engineer and told him about your advice and he has made several valid points (I think)
                    1. it's a new car to me and I don't know the history
                    2. K seal is unlikely to fix a cracked head gasket, but can solve many of the causes
                    3. It should be safe to leave for a while and can be flushed out when I know the motor better
                    4. He has never owned a surf, but puts K-seal in all the motors at the garage

I have come on to this forum for help and advice and have taken note of all the advice and am considering the best thing to do.
I had my last car for over 10 years and knew it well, the surf I've only had for a little over a week and don't know anything about it yet ( so advice and help will always be welcome and a bit of humour as well).
I am surprised that the temperature gets to half way as quick as it does (in minutes even at this time of year), but other than steep hills doesn't really seem to rise, but I have found evidence that it used to have lights on the front as the wiring is still there and I do wonder why and when they were removed.

                      I've been reading about it.

                      http://www.google.com/search?q=site%...t=k+seal&se=on

Everyone seems to swear by it....

                      Sorry, swear about it.

By passing our advice through someone who doesn't know anything about Surfs?

I can't speak for others but our Surf does get up to temperature much faster than any other car we've ever owned

BUT no matter how hard it's thrashed up hills the only time the temperature has increased above 'normal' was when we were fully loaded with 5 people and loads of gear towing 1400kg of caravan up a massive hill in France at a temperature of around 40 degrees !

We subsequently discovered that the head was knackered ...

The wiring doesn't necessarily mean anything - the previous owner could have removed some decent spots to flog off/use elsewhere but on the other hand it could have been in a crunch

Sorry to say this but personally I think it's a ticking bomb

Life is too important to take seriously !

It only raises ever so slightly above the half way mark on steep hills no where near the red

I said he had never owned a surf, not that he didn't know anything about them, but he has worked on hundreds on 4x4's and trucks over the years.

I passed your advice through him, because he was the one that recommended I put K-seal in, in the first place.
