Hey, sorry forgot about this thread.

I'm going t get some good rich's as soon as i have some spare cash.

Bushcraft, I do shoot for food sometimes, living in england this is not always straight forward so it tends to be rabbits and squirrels with an air rifle.

I abandoned ship on office life a few years ago and have not looked back. Even spending the day in a cold, wet, muddy woodland is better than commuting to work in an office to pay the bills

I'd like to buy you a beer some time, Squire. Done the military route and now the office job thing isn't working out for me. I want to play in puddles for a living!

I've got a set of FALKEN A/T fitted, (15 inch) over a year ago I think. They still look good as new, and cost about 80 each

If you're only intending to run one set of tyres with anything more than minimal tarmac usage DON'T buy MTs - they'll offer significantly less grip on tarmac and will wear out far faster than decent AT's.

Dr Anglegrinder has proved many times that decent AT's will provide all the performance you need in 95% of the conditions you'll meet offroad - if you want more than that then buy some steel rims, fit MTs to them and swap them over whenever necessary. Then they'll rot out long before they wear out

            PS
For the avoidance of doubt, performance offroad is enhanced by knowing wtf you're doing - a set of MTs WON'T turn you into an offroad God !

Have to agree with you Bob I have only ever used BFG A/T's and would never change them. Also agree, M/T's won't guarantee you going anywhere different than on A/T's!

            Cheers, Nick

                ^^^^oh dear

So you all think that BFG AT's are good enough on slippery mud and tarmac?

It's true that actually most of my driving is on the road but when i go off road, i really go off road, driving through the woods and up and down slippery slopes.

I will do more research. Thanks for all the advice!

I live in west london so i tend to be in and around the Bucks, Harts area most of the time however i often work up in North Wales ans sometimes Scotland.

Tend to steer clear of the Bushcraft Forums to be honest, I do like Natural Bushcraft though.

I have my own site with a blog on it that some may find interesting but not sure if i'm allowed to post it here or not, some forums get a bit funny about that sort of thing.

All Terrains are what you need.

If you have the coin then buy a set of Mud Terrains on seperate wheels and use them when you go offroad.

Muds will wear much quicker on tarmac and are noisier.

Don't put the spare on the roof because you will tip over and look silly.

i would love to do that, keeping an eye on ebay for tyres and wheels that come together but i'm leaning toward the consensus of opinion on here today which is AT's.

At the moment, the AT's i have (cant remember what they are called and they are mixed anyway) that came with the car are terrible on wet road, really terrible.

On the motorway the other day at 60mph i went through a wet patch and the car aquaplaned sideways even though i was going in a straight line.

This has happened before and it's really exciting (in a bad way) driving on wet tarmac at the moment.

The tyres are healthy but terrible and dispersing water.

Yep, AT's (BFG) took me laning everywhere for years and years, including along the Pyrenees, and were quiet and grippy on the road. Never got stuck. I really wouldn't even consider other tyres.

Ran Maxxis Mudzillas for a while (when I had two sets of wheels but couldn't be arsed changing wheels all the time), and never got stuck on them either, but they were truly awful on the road. Noisy, slippery, sucked down fuel and wore fast.

Cutting steps in the roof of the world

What I will say is that they are quieter than Khumos, wear well, and I haven't got into serious trouble with them yet...
They also have stone ejectors built into the lugs, so as the tyre flexes, the harder lump stays rigid and ejects the stone.
Oh and they are better than Mastercraft Courser MT's which wore quickly and whined on the road.
                          "REAL" means the REAL deal!

The rubber that was on my Surf when I bought it was truly terrible - I complained a lot but the financial advisor wouldn't let got of the purse strings ...

Then the back end let go in a big way when we were on holiday in Cornwall, the result was a change of trousers all round and a set of GG AT2's as soon as we got home - they're a million times better than the crap that was on the truck in the first place

Life is too important to take seriously !
