Garage breaks anti roll bar

Hello, took my surf down to my local garage to get them to replace ns cv boots. In the process they broke the anti roll bar, should I pay for the part or should they stump up for the cost of the part? I am assuming that there will not be much more in the way of labour to put the new one on if they are working in that area?

If they didn't have to right tool to remove it without breaking it and they didn't warn you before hand then its their fault 100% and the replacement part is their responsibility,

Surely you mean the bracket?

I disagree, 8 times out of 10 the ARB links are badly corroded break when you try and undo them, they often break just with flexing the suspension offroad.

Its part of the cost of doing a CV, I know about it and tell people they'll probably need the links to if they break, but if you've not done one before how can you advise people?

It's just life.

thanks for all your advice. Picked my surf up today from the garage all fixed, no bill yet so wait and see what they do. I use them quite a lot and their normally quite good so might forgive them!

not sure , could be the drop link, new bit that I can see is about 4 inch long and vertical? I'm no mechanic hence the garage.

ok sounds like I need to talk to my mechanic about trussing my lintel to the apex!

For what it's worth, as a former mechanic myself I would have phoned you when the problem became apparent and had a conversation with you about it before proceeding.

Realistically, I'd hope that you would pay for the part and I would fit it for free. However, as a valued customer if you refused I would wipe my mouth and put it right for free.
