I'm considering poly bushing - Si off the top of your head, have you replaced any of the bushes with Polys, don't really want to replace perfectly good bushes, admittedly they're normally fairly obvious, and normally fairly brightly coloured, on the Audi I had blue, purple and yellow ones, would prefer them all the same colour but that's life.

I'm new to all this stuff fella, so GHD doesn't mean a lot to me, the gas canister makes it sound like a trick I've seen on Youtube whereby people re-inflate their tyres via gas...

I replaced all the steering rack bushes with poly & that was probably the hardest out of the lot so the rest should be a breeze mate.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Spare gas canisters for your GHD's
All the above has been done "by me personally" apart from a few bushes, think there is a spare GHD canister in the glove box with the curlers.

        You The Man Si!

As I think I said when I bought it, the only real downside to your truck is you've already done everything!!!! :P

I'm quite tempted by the whole Tundra brake upgrade at the minute, nowt wrong with the current brakes, bearing in mind I'm used to driving a 25yr old Golf GTI which has no brakes as standard, but I kinda like the potential challenge of hunting halfway around the world for the various parts, doing the job personally and hopefully being impressed by the results, only possible downside might be if I can't easily get pads in the future, but I would have thought the pads will be the easiest thing to source. Does make me wonder what over bits of kit out there might just bolt on with little to no trouble and give improvements, not talking brakes, anything really.

I just read your post again Si, GHD as in the hair dressing stuff? I'm a bit slow, but I think I've got there in the end :P

I thought it was something to do with General Grabbers or something, hence my comment about the tyre trick...

Some new boots would take most out of it, with enough for a cheapish wench maybe.
                  Fixed that for you.

I poly bushed mine, at the front, if feels a lot better now.

Be prepared to have to have the lower arms cut out and buy new Camber adjusters!

If lift and off roady stuff is not your thing, what about a projector HID conversion, or at least later "clear" headlamps.

or just proper full on overhaul if she's "a keeper"

Stuff I've done recently, not necesarily exciting, but its better for it...

Upper and lower ball joints (genuine toyota)
Polybush all front suspension, and steering rack (new gaiters too)
New CV boots, new diff seals,
                    Braided lines

Lift bits + split rims adn 33s (I like the look)

It's also fully sounded deadened inside,
double din screen for sat nav/bluetooth handsfree.

Proper clean underneath and underseal is next!

But personally... £1k would get you an LS400, with lots of change for other bits

                    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/96-02-Toyo...item414278d1a9

I also quite like the look of these...
Sure someone could do it cheaper, but as an easy kit with all the measurements...

                      Evening folks,

Karma Supra - Sounds like you've done some interesting stuff on your Surf. Have you done any write ups on here about any of it, or are there any guides you've followed?

Sound deadening is interesting, any more details on this?

Like the look of the bonnet struts, the rod is loose on mine, so I can literally take it completely out the engine bay, so that's an alternative to fixing/replacing mine, as you say something similar can probably be bought cheaper.

Polybushing is still fairly high on my list.

What's peoples thoughts on doing the bushes in stages? So rather than spending £300 or whatever on all the bushes, getting a pair or two a month and fitting them, or could it potentially put extra stress on the older ones you don't initially replace?

                      Thanks

                      Rog

That is exactly the sort of projector mod was thinking of (without the chavvy engel eyes) once you have got used to proper factory fit HIDs, halogens are just so rubbish!

I've not written any guides, no one ever listens to me lol

More than happy to give advice if requested though.

When doing my front poly bushes I did the top arms first (I indended to do the bottoms at the same time but realised the lower adjustment tubes were seized and would need cutting, this is a PITA by the way as they are hardened steel on the third gen.

It's worth doing the top ball joints at that time because it makes working on the top arms easier.

I used "Edead" sound deadening, the regular heavy bitumen stuff, then the edead "techlite" foam type stuff ontop of that, (pics of both stages attached) it made a huge difference!

I forgot I also added two way pager remote start Viper Alarm., and DIY'd heated mirrors, the alarm is tied into the rear de mister and the mirrors so if I remote start it when its cold they demist...

Another nice toy was my "Truckbedz" airbed...

Not for everyone, but it uses the 6ft length of the truck with the rear seats doen, and has cut outs for the arches, its bascally the size of a double bed, - minus the wheel arches. Very comfy. Even more so since I gave the mrs the elbow cost me about £75 shipped from the US.

Also I needed a bit more "thickness" to the sound system, so added a 8" sub. The aim was to get a better sound, but not lose any boot space.

I suceeded., there is a cubic foot in that "slimline" sealed enclosure, the amp is tucked away. I can still use the truckbedz. Its not a big silly sound system, but it adds some richness.

The girls at work seem to like it!

This is great stuff, really appreciate you posting this stuff Karma. The bed thing is great. We've recently bought a half decent tent and been taking the kids here and there, I have been picturing your mattress and thought to myself I bet there's nothing out there like that, and even wondered if I could make/design one myself and make some money out of them, as usual someone's already done them

Really keen on the sound proofing, I've got a few interior squeaks and creaks I really want to eliminate, mostly I think due to loose plastic interior, was considering removing all the interior and potentially padding it with sponges or something, but doing what you've done looks really good.

Its starting to look like my £1000 is going to have to do some real stretching, but there's no rush, I love the idea of a long to do list and for the first time in a long time, I'll have stuff to put on birthday and Xmas lists, although some of the stuff will strike my family as very odd

As for mirrors, I really want electric folding ones, had my eye on a pair on Ebay, blue ones too, but somebody's bought one, so will keep an eye out, need some definite details on what extra's I'll need to get the mirrors working though, i.e. wires, buttons/switches, etc.

                              Thanks again Karma.

                                No Probs,

Ask TonyN, he had some Electric folders on his breaker the week before last.

                                They are white....

I must admit I've never needed to "fold" mine, (the M3 has them too, as did the Supra it replaced) but I know what it is like to know of an extra you don't have!
