I have recently bought a pair of 35 year old hifi speakers, which, from an audio point of view are stunning, but from a furniture point of view are looking very tired.
They are a real wood veneer of some sort, but it is chipped, faded and stained here and there, with larger chips off the cabinet corners exposing the chipboard underneath.
How would you recommend bringing these back to a presentable state? I had in mind filling the chips, rebuilding the corners with filler, sanding and some sort of piano gloss black finish but am happy to consider other options such as re-veneering, or even bespoke new cabinets.
Bear in mind that I got these for £50, but it is said on some of the vintage hifi forums that they've changed hands for over a grand in top condition!
