  • Things you didn't know about your Surf....

Just faffing about today and I didn't realise that the back seats have multiple positions for the recline position!

I just wondered if there were other 'undiscovered' features that our beloved workhorses were capable of but many of us were unaware of...?

I 'rediscovered' the side lumber support on the seats...wish i'd adjusted it last time off roading as it can squeeze your kidneys out...!

I found last week that if you take the keys out when the doors closed you cant use the electric windows, makes sense keeps it secure.

BUT.... if you have the door open THEN take the keys out it will keep power to the windows so you can close them without the keys in, and it automaticly shuts the power to the windows off again when the doors closed and stays off till the keys are in the ignition again.

The 22 year old beast still has a few high tech surprises in her yet

Blow a brake light bulb and the auto won't shift from park

A blown bulb didn't affect my '92 2.4 either. How do you adjust the back seats, I'm intrigued now but it's dark outside

Lift the black knob on the top of them and move forward or back slightly

Lift the adjustment knobs as if you were flattening the seats. The seat back will then have several 'stops' that it can go in.

I only noticed it because the two seat backs didn't line up and I wondered if something had been bent. After fiddling with it I noticed the multi positions.

This is on a 3rd gen, not sure if they all have it.

Aha, there is and it does, why ye bugger. Shame its not leccy like my g reg ford Granada Scorpio! With the idle up switch, does that mean a PTO somewhere? I can't think of a reason why otherwise
