  • Varnishing tables...

OK I have been asked to re-varnish some tables in a hotel and after doing the first one I notice that it is already marked.

Maybe I took it back too soon after it had been varnished... 48hrs after last coat ?

I was asked to recoat and give a mirror finish to these tables so I used ronseal woodstain (4 coats) to colour the wood and Yacht varnish (4 coats) to varnish.

What would you advise as the hardest most resillient varnish to use ? Has to be a high gloss finish.

Also after I had done the 1st table although very shiney my hand didn't glide smoothly accross the table like I had expected.

The finish must be resillient to alcohol, acidic drinks and chemical cleaners.

This is how it looked, the cleaning chemicals have stripped the varnish off almost completely and the staff had turned another table orangey pink by using the same cleaning cloth on a light pine table.

1st of all, sack the cleaning staff or confiscate their sulphuric acid.

2nd, You need a Nitrocellulose (Bar top) lacquer.
Dries bone hard and can be re-coated after one hour.

3rd, bring them here and get them sprayed.
