I know it looks bigger but it was stacked on packaging, And I know its plastic with an Ally core, but with having two top tank leaks on soldered joints one after just over a year I thought I would give this one a go. Two year Warranty replacement. Also has the benifit of a drain plug and is half the weight of the old one. So I will see how it goes.......

Hey, Dave. Judging it by the picture, the new rad looks good quality. I've just had a new rad, myself. When I looked on the RT website, the new rad's that they listed, were the plastic / ally type. They say that they are better, and have an increased flow rate. After ringing and getting some assurance, and confirmation that they were, indeed, much better, I placed my order. You can imagine my disappointment when it turned up, and I found out that what they had sent me was the old brass type. When I rang to queery it, someone else there told me that the brass ones were the best. Funny, eh?.......I just hope that I have more luck with mine than you did!

The aluminium ones are the best, they flow better and dissipate heat more efficiently. 3rd gens have them, so do Lexus'.
The plastic tanks are DIY replaceable too.

If anyone fits an ally radiator (which I hate) then make sure you have no stray current running through the cooling system or it will last about a week before it corrodes.

Just ordered a set of brakes and stuff from R/T so hope they dont sednd me ally ones new rad loos the nuts, wouldn't mind one meself

I have had two of the brass top tanks leak on me and am fed up with them failing just after the warranty period. I would'nt accept the brass type my last one leaked just after a year ! I had a scary moment coming home from work with the Truck over heating so feck the old Brass ones. Send it back, I would, I could give you details of Boston Rads. When they looked at my old one they said it had been recored ! I was preaty sure at that time I was buying a new one !

Cheers Vince, very reasurring, I will keep you all informed. You may be interested in Boston Rads they have been family run for over 50 years very knowelegble and helpfull and do all sorts of specials if needed.

Bit pricey just to replace if not needed Mate, but nice build quality and very light also, prob less than half the weight. Hope all is OK with you Ian..

It had to be fitted straight away, Dave. Otherwise it would have been blocking up my mates workshop. Hope I won't need it, but I'll try to remember Boston Rads name, thanks.

ally rads!! all depends on what your fitting them on. Twin core for cooling ally for weight i use to run them on mr2`s & supra`s up santa pod . reckon weight on a surf no prob lol never had any probs with them on mr2`s cooked one on a supra 650bhp tho

What is it with these rads? I had an R/T one fitted two years ago and just went out to check the truck over to find a leak in the top.

This is stupid and really not good enough. I find R/T are spot on with everything I need and offer great service, but this really let's them down.

We are off touring with the truck tomorrow ( belgium, Germany, Switzerland, France) so I have no choice but to liquid metal it and keep an eye on things

Boston rads here I come..... I phoned them and they can't find the rad, so do you have a part or reference number??... Cheers.

Just spoke to Boston rads and they do a brass one for the 3ltr not an Ali one. Still they reckon it should last a very very long time and Are amazed at the other ones not lasting long. They come with a two year warranty.

Not rubbishing RT because they have always been spot on with me, But there rads are another story, like I said when I had my 1 1/2 year old one looked at I was told it had been recored !!! I never fealt comfortable with any of my diy repairs inc hot melt, liquid metal and solder, my advise is to buy new with at the very least two years warranty. I know in your case you need to go away so maybe no help to you.

I agree that R/T are great for almost everything...they are just not radiator experts. Lesson learnt.
