  • Rattley Zorst...

Noticed the other day a slight raspieness to the engine. Its now developed into a very noticeable vibration in the exhaust system between 1.5 and 1.6k rpm.
slid underneath and started tapping stuff. Found the centre exhaust to be the culprit - tapping it recreates the noise.
Now, do mufflers die from the inside out? ie have the baffles collapsed?
Anyone know about exhausts from a tech point of view pls?

Exhausts corrode/erode/die from the inside out (unless the exhaust isn't being used, in which case it will corrode/erode/die from the outside in).

Stop saying, Zorst; it makes you look silly.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

It's to do with the condensation, heating up, cooling down.
Rip it off, get a full stainless system and sleep soundly.

        Yes, sorry.

So, if my muffler is dead, is it an EX ZORST?

I was thinking more of getting a transit box, a slashed tip, and borrowing my mate with his welder and tube bender....

Being a Diesel you could probably get quite a bit of life out of it yet!

When you do replace it, look into getting a stainless straight through system. They never ever rot through although the cheaper ones use rusty stainless. Being a straight through system, you might even get 0.01MPG better fuel economy!
My Longlife system was fitted in 2008 or 2009 and is the same condition as day 1.

                    update...

With the back window open, yesterday it sounded like a kazoo... now the offending piece of oxidised steel has (stopped vibrating) deteriorated, we are back to normal....
Nothing to see here, move on!
