I'm in Denny, Stirlingshire and could take a look at prospective trucks for you. I've built, modified, punished one or two Surfs.

I can check overall condition but can't offer any guarantee in regard to ongoing mechanical condition. ie: it might be fine on the day and a week later the head blows.

I have a fair idea of repair costs/parts as well, replaced most things on a few trucks in my time. So even a truck needing a wee bit of work can still be fine if the price is right.

IMHO I think you should decide firstly what you will use the truck for, what your budget is. I'd always go for a 3.0td in 2nd gen or 3rd gen but if it's a road only truck then the 2.7 petrol is a more refined option in the 3rd gen. this is only my opinion based on driving and repairing these trucks for a few years.

As for travelling to get the right truck, my first one came all the way from Bristol, the latest one from a mile up the road.

Many thanks for the offer Alan i will certainly keep you in mind when the time
        comes to splash the cash.

In regard to petrol v diesel
what is the going rate for say a 2.7 3rd gen against a 3l diesel 3rd gen ? is there much difference ?

The other half seems to like the 3rd gen more than the 2nd.
it would really be road use only with the occasional off road camping trip and
        carrying 3 dogs about.

        cheers
        Alan

Its hard to say what the difference in going rate betwen the 2.7 petrol and the 3.0l diesel is, because its pretty rare to see a 2.7 petrol for sale,

Your other half is exhibiting excellent taste in vehicles.

What Bogus said, but the 3rd gen is better (with the petrol just edging it, but I'm biased)

Cheers for the input Bogus & Alan
it really wouldn't bother me either way if it was petrol or diesel engined
It was just that i have never had a diesel engined motor before.

And the jury is still out on if its going to be a gen 2 or 3
i like the gen 2 but Tracy (holds the purse strings) likes the gen 3

                    cheers

                        Hi Ross

cheers for bringing your surf down tonight for me to look at.
just a pity about the weather though.
Tracy said she didn't believe it was that age either.
she now likes gen 2`s as well.

                        thanks again Ross
                        see you around
