it would still take off as planes are reliant on thrust from jet engines to create speed, the belt can go backwards as fast as it likes but the plane will still move forwards relative to a fixed spot on the ground - because the wheels have no drive and there is no pressure against the thrust of the engines from the belt.

ONLY if you have the sidelights on.

Its not hard to understand, a plane on a belt will not and cannot take off, it doesnt take off because of wheel speed or thrust, it takes off because of the lift generated by high windspeed flowing past the wings giving it lift. Regardless of what the engine or wheels are doing. Gliders have no engine but still take off and fly.

On a conveyor there is in no way atall any lift genereated regardless of how fast it or the belt is moving, the plane will be stationary unless its travelling alot faster than the belt. Thrust doesnt equal lift nor does wheel speed its att to do with air flow passing over and under the wings.
well, that was a bad idea!

but the thrust will move the plane forwards, in relation to a static point on the ground - the sea plane is a good example. it doesn't have a higher or lower airspeed take off speed based on whether the tide is going in or out

the wheels will move twice as fast as teh plane is moving, but the plane will move and therefore take off.

LOOK! FFS it's basic aerodynamics, if the conveyor belt moves backward and matches the thrust of the aircrafts engines (that would normally be pushing it forward) then the aircraft CANNOT be getting airflow over it's wings, basicly what your saying is the grounds moveing and not the plane!!
a plane has got to get enough airflow over the wings to enable it to rise,
the bigger/heavier the plane the more airspeed it needs to gain lift, glider can opperate without an engine as they are very light and have comparativly large wings, but they still need a powered aircraft to get them up there in the first place,
and thats it, aint wasting any more finger movement on this

They do but have a plane towing them at take off! if the GLIDER was on a conveyor belt when the plane was towing it would it take off then??????

Would a helicopter be able to take off & fly in the vacuum of space?
If its not broke don't fix it.
