  • Hilux Surf 3L TD identification?

    Hi,

Very new to the world of Hilux Surfs!

I’m from the UK, however now based out in the Bahamas for work and I’ve got a Hilux Surf, everything here on the island is mega expensive, especially cars due to the 45% - 85% duty that they place on cars and car parts.

Hoping that someone will be able to help to identify the year of the car that I’ve bought and I think I have the ECU issue that I’ve read up here on the forum.

The seller said that it is a 1991 3L TD Hilux Surf, model/frame number that I’ve taken off the car is Y-KZN130W / 1KZ-TE. I’ve checked the ECU unit and the part number on that is 89661-3D100, which suggests that the car is a 1993 model...?

    Questions:

What year and model is the car?
From the model number of the ECU, is this the original, or has it been replaced? If so, am I able to use another ECU from a diesel hilux surf?

    Much appreciated.

    Dan

93 was the first year of the 3.0's

    It could be a 91' "3L" with be a 2.8 non-turbo

But the KZN130 says it should be 93-95 3.0TD motor.

The confusion can be because people confuse 3L with a 3.0

    2.4 is a 2L, 2L/T or 2L/TE
    2.8 is a 3L
    3.0 is a 1KZ/T or 1KZ/TE

Somewhere between 8/'93 and 8/'95. With Model and Frame numbers I can tell you exactly when it was built.

Apologies for not putting my frame number up here. The car was at the garage getting a new fuel filter installed as there was a hole in it. Took a couple of weeks to get it here from the US and then a couple of weeks for the garage to fit it....anyway....information I took from the engraved panel under the hood:

            Model: Y-KN130W-GKPOT
            Engine: 1KZ-TE
            Frame no: KZN130-9028916
            8E3GX12
            Trans/Axle A343F G294

            Thanks,

            Dan

Hi Dan, model info can be found here maybe you have missed out a letter from the chassis number ?

              There should be a "Z" Y-KZN130W and the O I believe should be a "Q" in GKPOT

It's a 3/'94 model. ECU is correct and any from 8/'93 to 11/'95 will be the same as long as it's from an auto.

Guys sorry to be a pain, but one more query...

Is there any sequence that I should follow from removing the ECU from the passenger side panel?

As in, should I disconnect the battery, then unplug the cables from the ECU and then unscrew it?

                    Thanks,

                    Dan
