  • Help Please!

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well.

I am touring around Scotland and my surf has started making a loud squeaking / squealing noise. It sounds like its from the front passenger wheel or foot well area, it does not do it when coasting, only when accelerating.

Could it be the wheel bearing?

It was an advisory on my mot, but a mechanic said it just needed "nipping up" and he tightened it just over a month ago.

The belts near the fan seem ok, no noise on tick over or when coasting, but as soon as I press the accelerator it starts squeaking?

Please help, as im doing lots of miles and the poor surf has been up more mountains than Sherpa Tenzing! By the way the mountains around Fort William have lots of snow on them.

    Thanks for any help, Stuart.

Sounds like one of your belts to me . Check them all, they need to be fairly tight or they will make a noise as you described. Good luck.

Ditto!! definatly sounds like belt to me too, pay particular attension to the power steering belt, mine seems to come loose on a regular basis, pump always seems to loosen itself,

3 litres don't have a power steering belt

Could be the rubber gone in the crankshaft pulley ?

Yep the pump is gear driven off the timing gears.

              Dry bearing in the tensioner?
try some WD40 on the pulleys...

Stuart. Are you using the aircon? A dodgy aircon "clutch" can squeal loudly like that, under acceleration.

I knew someone would point that out, but does't anyone else sometimes use theirs to stop the windows from misting up, when it's raining?

                          Thanks for the help,

I arrived in Fort William today, I was on Mull last week, lovely place.

I will check if the belts are tight in the morning, should be easy for a garage to adjust them.
I can get some WD-40 and spray around inside cam belt cover.

As long as its ok to drive?

Oil is full, runs well, all the gauges are good.
