  • Thinking of a 3.0 Surf

Fed up with my Disco2, always fixing something usually expensive.

have spotted a Surf SSR 3.0auto 1995 with 110k miles.
i had a Estima for a few years and managed to go through 2 heads before scrapping it.
i have had a look at the forum and see alot about the heads blowing on 2.4 engines, which is what forums are for, great for info and fixing stuff.
how about the later 3.0 diesels, are they as prone to blowing heads as well, or has the problem been sorted??

i like the look of the surf and it drives pretty good as well.

    so what's the general consenus.

    is a 3.0 surf a good 'un

    any opinions will be cherished

I'm posting out of my depth here in terms of mechanical knowledge, but if its any use to you I can recommend a 3.0 litre surf driving mechanic outside Ballynahinch who could cast his eye over any potential purchase you might want to make.

They're thoroughly solid. The head can let go but only to the extent that you would expect of ant 15-20 year old car. It het noticed because the rest stays together.

very happy with both (got 2 2.4l, (1 head blown, all my fault) and a 3l)
best vehicle so far is the 3l, even the 2.4 got more torque with less revs.

UK 4 runner models tend to be rot boxes, and will rust everywhere.
Rear suspension sags, but is easily and cheaply repaired.
Fuel cosumptiomtion is poor in comparison to a Disco.
