  • 4x4 gear stick knocked out of neutral position

OK, total doofus here so be warned!

    I have a 1992 2.4 TDI

I accidentally knocked 'the other gearstick' last night, and crawled home with the truck screaming in what sounded like 2nd gear (3000 revs all the way). I've tried to move the gear stick back to it's neutral position, but to no avail.

I've never touched this gear stick before, or had cause to use it, so was hoping someone would help a confused noob please!

    thanks :-)

If memory serves, put the truck in park or neutral, pull the stick back as far as it goes(away from the dash). It sounds like you have it in low range.
    Non intercooled nothing.

As said already , put the gear selected in neutral , then pull the other smaller selecter all the way back into high range. I hope you didn't drive it too far in low4 as the 2nd gen surfs can't be driven on road in 4wd as far as I believe without knackering up diffs etc.

Another forum I frequent has a mod that the site owners refer to as 'The Anti Moderator' - every now and then he stirs the pot for a little light entertainment !

Now that is a good idea ,perhaps as forum members we should have a vote, but I'll let someone else choose the candidate.
