Don't get me started on insurance.

I was with Sureterm last year with mine, all mods declared, every addition you could think of for £295 (31years old, 5 years driving + wife with 3 years driving) but their underwriter no longer does modded 4x4s and because they do specialist nett priced policies I didn't earn any no claims bonus so I am now with Adrian Flux but for £599!

I have managed to convince Sureterm to give me 1 years no claims due to the underwriter for the last 2 years being the same which will help next year when it's up to 2 but I am a bit annoyed.

I shopped around like crazy too and that's their best price with a 30% introductory offer, other prices came back as £1100+!

Apparently (backed up by several firms) modded 4x4s are now classed as 2nd vehicles only and as such you will only ever be using them in dangerous situations (green laning etc.) as daily driving is all done in your 1st car. Same for driving other vehicles isn't covered as that would be on the policy for your 1st car and the list goes on and on.

Sureterm would give me a policy for £280 but I pretty much would never be able to drive mine or anyone else's vehicles which has forced me to go with Adrian Flux.

Nevermind, I'm sure I don't need my money for my mortgage or supporting my family anyway!
I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants!

I got a quote or £440 told them to stop the automatic renewal {another con to catch the lazy} They claimed the we guaruntee to beat any quote nonsense then failed. So now with quote me Happy and paid £250 for the same policy.

I have had two vehicles with them for about 6 years, This year I have nothing insured by them. Shop around is a must.

To the original OP if that list of vehicles is accurate in your avatar you can afford the grand.

Why not take out a traders policy to cover a half dozen motors much cheaper way to do it as long as all drivers are over 25yrs

A trade policy may be a good option thinking about it, list is correct. It's not a case of affording it; I hate being ripped off; On one of my Lancia's I pay about £600 per year and that has an agreed value of £25k, Fully Comp, I just can't work out why the Surf which is probably only worth £1,500 is so much to insure.

Anyway, cheers for the advice, I will look in to a trade policy,

        Simon

Hmm, I tried the trader policy route. Mate of mine suddenly turned up in an LS400 which I was astounded by as they are not cheap to insure. Investigation turned up that for £800 a year he has a trader policy on which he can drive anything (with silly exceptions -EVOs/ Ferraris etc).
Well, it was a no brainer so I went to get me one of them. I was told by an ever so nice lady that she would happily sell me one BUT unless I was trading and swapping cars on a regular basis, and the underwriters would check, it will be invalid in the case of a mishap.

Thought about doing some token buying and selling just to justify but I haven't the space.

"Thank you for requesting a quotation on your TOYOTA 4-RUNNER.We are delighted to offer you our highly competitive provisional rate as shown below: £19175.72"

I shifted from FLux to an Admiral multi car this year, the Surf was getting dearer and they quoted.silly for. the Fto. I,m almost as old as Methusela, with full NCD.
My Sister, who is tighter. than two coats of paint, shops around and shifts every year, I
think. she may have a point

NCB goes a long way with Flux from what I can see, hat's what knackered me by previously having Sureterm's Nett priced policies that don't accrue NCB.
Don't have to prove your mileage? I'm sure their tune will change if you had an accident?!

Yeah, I really wish a theft didn't affect NCB! Just makes me loathe the %&$£er who stole mine even more.

Risk. You're less likely to be bothered about having a ding in a £1.5k Surf than you are in a £25k Lancia. Therefore, the risk of you claiming on the Surf is greater than it is in the Lancia.

Finally got there in the end, £464.36 with A plan.
That's 38 Years of age, fully comp, 10 Years NCB.

Sureterm were a waste of time, refused to believe it was a 3.0l then decided to quote for a 2.5 as, in the supervisors words, it was "near enough"
Another hour of questioning followed after which point they decided they couldn't insure it as it was kept on the road!

I couldn't get anyone to add my Wife as an additional driver as she's only just passed her test, despite being over 40.
Sadly, much as I love my Surf (and I really, really do, I've never kept any car even half as long as I've had this one) I think that the insurance cost and hassle is going to kill it for me next Year

Fully comp, with my Wife as a new driver, less than £100.00 increase with Aviva.
Just trying to get through to A-Plan now to make sure there are no penalties for canellation

Took a long, long time on the phone because as any good insurer will tell you, there's no such vehicle as a '95 Surf 3.0 auto. You can have any two of those combo's, but not all four lol
Still, got there in the end
