  • what a cow of a job

well I read all the posts on here about starter motors and I had the intermittent starter problems on my 2.4 sent off for the kit from roughtrax and started the job..... I would never have thought that a starter motor could be such a bitch to get off and on. But its done and all is fine.

I dont post on here a lot but I do look around and before I tackle a job I always check, it is an invaluable source of info and expertise thanks everyone.

It's almost worth doing a body lift first, then removing the starter!
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

      your not wrong

It would be quicker easier on the hands with cuts and also would have stopped me throwing spanners down the road.

I had mine on and off about four times until I bought a new one. Even with the new kit fitted it still let me down.

I changed out a starter on a 90 with mudskipper once, took both of us and all day, and utter utter swine of a job; we talked to a landy specialist we know later and he just said yup there;s no trick to it, unless you remove the engine first lol

            starter removal

I must be getting old cos I remember a starter motor as a thing usually slung under the back of the engine boleted to the bell housing and just held on with two bolts and a big wire. crawl under and remove in about five minutes repair and put back what ever happened to the good old days when you could tinker with an engine just for fun and very rarely run into problems. I remeber when I was a young man taking an engine out of a vauxhall victor 101 estate on a saturday, putting new big ends and rings in and drove to work in it on the monday morning.

Having said that I would never part with my surf had this 5 years and never once got bored with it.
