The trouble is:
They work to a format/formula that has always worked.
The old shows are shown every evening on at least 2 Serbian cable channels. So they are earning selling it around the world.
They are working to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra.

But I agree, it's getting boring and needs updating.

The U.S. option is the same thing.. it's scripted so different cars, same jokes.
Just doesn't seem to have the same character.

But at least they're still clipping each other when parking up.

I wouldn't mind if it was briefer.

Clarkson has sort of turned it into a full blown interview and he is such a sycophant to boot.

"Hello, how are you, here's your lap" "1 minute 47 secs, you're shit, bye"

Would be preferable.
