  • Wheel problem

I have a bit of a wheel problem.

It looks like the people who changed my wheels last time have cross threaded a bolt and knackered the thread on the wheel hub.

I have a new wheel nut, but it looks like I need to replace the wheel hub bolt.

    Is it a simple job?
Do I need any special tools?
I'm hoping it's just a case of popping off the disc and knocking the bolt out – but if there's any thing tricky like a lift handed thread on the back of the bolt or a something then it would be good to be forewarned.

Does anyone have any useful advice?

(apart from going back to the original garage and slapping them with a wrench.)

It is, assuming you have a 2nd Gen.

      It's a 3rd gen.

I really should update my profile.

3rd generation? If so then yes, remove the disc, knock out damaged wheel stud and install new. 2nd generation require removal of hub to separate the disc from hub.

          Excellent.
Sounds like something I can do myself even with my limited mechanical skills.

          Last question, hopefully.
Does anyone know if it's a tricky part to get hold of?

Do I need a specific Toyota part or is it just a generic 3" wheel bolt available from anywhere?
          Thanks.

It'll be specific. Check roughtrax, see if they have any.
