Memory sticks

Totally off topic as usual

Any of our IT Gurus know how to raise the dead ?

i only went to borrow the wife's memory stick, put it into the port on the side of laptop ...totally dead

now this is all my fault that it doesn't work. Oh and all the school planning work is lost unless I can access said data

Do i commit suicide now or is there a survival method available ?

I would double check it john cos knowing you it was probably a bread stick you were trying to shove in.

From my experience it's usually the usb port that goes wrong rather than the memory stick, could it be a loose connection?
If nothing else works then there's no reason not to take it to pieces, they're pretty simple circuitry so any fault should be easy enough to spot.

Right, took it apart....haven't a clue what to look for, plugged it into two different laptops and the tower up in our office, no flash from the led etc

No not sold yet, am hoping to keep it as work has picked up a bit so its looking ok at the minute,I'll wait & see what the insurance renewal is in april before i make any rash decisions.

Don't do it Si, I regret letting mine go, i have already warned the 'she devil' that if our Euro contract finally comes to fruition, I am getting another Surf !

I had a flash drive that had the same problem... I eventually plugged it into an old windows 98 laptop (now deceased) and found that the flash drive worked on it.
It was suggested to me to try a Linux based system such as Ubuntu too...

Oh and it was 98SE, the older 98 doesn't do USB I believe.

I work for an Electronics manufacturer, if the data is important you could send it across and I'll get one of the shop floor guys to have a look - no promises though..
