After talking to the wife about a few things , we have decided the surf is a must have vehicle , but it needs more power .
But it needs more power .i know the easiest option is to pay vince to put a lexus v8 in it . but that is not a option as i cant afford that sort of money .
So the questioins now are ..
1, what other engine options are there to replace my 2.4 lump
2, how hard is it to convert it to a 3 litre diesel (i.e what would need changing other than the engine itself)

    any help would be appreciated

If you are tight on cash, you could re-gear it for now.

That'll put your gearing back to normal, (assuming those are 33's)

Probably the 2.4 has low gearing anyway, but someone who knows might come along and advise you.

      From what I know:

      1. Lots, depending on how much work you want to do. As you know, a Rover V8 can be squeezed in there and I'm sure a lot of modern diesels would fit. The tricky bit is getting one from a rear wheel drive car. You could see about something from a diesel BMW?? Conventional wisdom, though, is that that Lexus engine is pretty cheap to buy, reliable, powerful and fairly easy to convince to go in there. If you're handy, there is a list of everything you need in the conversions section and I'm sure Vince would be on hand to to offer help if you get stuck.

      2. All the electronic gubbins too, I believe. Probably cheaper to go for the Lexus option to be honest. Failing that, it's probably also cheaper and easier to buy a 3.0, swap anything you want off the 2.4 then flog the 2.4 with the stock bits from the 3.0 on it.

I do mail order, plug and play Lexus engine looms now for £150. Send me the loom with all the ECU plugs and I'll send it back with it's own fuse box and relays, then it's only four wires to connect to get the engine running.
        If that helps.

Uncle Vince here to save the day already...

Last time this subject came up, I suggested trying a BMW M47. Same power and torque as a 1-KZ and much smaller, lighter and efficient.

That was a just a thought though....

And when you've finished fitting it Vince will be able to sell you one without all the melted cables ...

Yep! Spotted you a mile off (quite literally) and caught up in no time!

I always think they look bigger moving... it's not often I get to look square on at another vehicle to the side of me, then to the back of me, and then just a dot in my rear view mirror...
