  • Byways/laning in Scotland

Sorry if this has previously been covered, I tried a few searches.

As far as I understand, there are no footpaths, bridleways or byways in Scotland. Walkers have the 'right to roam', but what (if anything) is there for greenlaning?

My dad lives in Scotland but has no interest in laning, so doesn't really know where the law lies. He thinks that I could drive up a few tracks local to him and the landowners wouldn't mind, as long as I didn't cause any damage, but does anyone know if there is some equivalent to the right to roam? Or is it 'pay & play' sites only?

    Cheers for any input!

    ...anyone?

What do the Scottish members do? Off road sites only?

Doesn't exist unfortunatly unlike down south. It's either P&P sites or be a member of a club that negotiates with land owners access to private land for Green Road Runs.

        Thanks for your reply!

I feared that would be the answer, but thought it was worth checking. It's a shame, because there are so many mountain-side tracks in such beautiful scenery which I would love to get amongst with my Surf!

        Cheers.
