If you cancel your Sky subscription, can you still receive the "freeview" channels without any setup modification?

I've heard of people re-aligning their dish to another satellite, has anyone done this on here?

There`s a few satellite`s up there you can point at. I used to have a 60cm dish with 2 lnb`s on it. Eutelsat, hot bird are 2 i can remember, lots of crap on them but some interesting stuff too. Dont watch telly anymore, i use i player etc some youtube and download the rest from isohunt then pipe it into a 42 inch plasma monitor. As long as you dont watch live it means no telly licence needed and you dont end up watching loads of crap before the prog you actually want to see comes on

Cheers. I live in London so have one of the smaller oval dishes from Sky. I've just been doing some Googling and it's not 100% clear if I can use the sky equipment, repointed at another satellite for free to view channels.

I also do the same as you. Also some of the programs are not on air in the UK e.g. Lost when it was showing so that was accessed via the usual channels you know of. I understand about the TV license, but have you heard of CatchupTV? It streams live TV over the internet so I think they have us with that one?

Standard TV type viewing will be becoming less common in the coming years.

I seem to remmeber this coming up on another forum once.
I think you loose the sky channels, and the functionality of the PVR in the sky+ box.

I bought a freesat box and junked the sky one as what was free on there was very limited, just took the sat cable out of the sky box and into the freebox, autotuned, no messing with the dish and away it went, "35 channels of sh*t on the TV to choose from" which the missus watches. H

You can get a twin tuner freesat card for the computer for 50 quid. much better than 250/300 for a freesat+ box. (as long as your comp is up to it, and you can connect it to your TV.
                it's in me shed, mate.

Sky sat dishes point at the same sattelite as freesat Tony, so all you need from sky is to purchase a one off viewing card for all the free channels (£20 last time i enquired)
Alternatively you can just hook up a cheap freesat receiver instead

                  cheapest one i found is

but there are lots of others out there (no recording facility on the cheap ones tho'

no, no realigning needed, think I bought the freesat box for under 20 quid, was peanuts anyway, tried fiddling with the sky one but they've even got some normal channels locked out unless you subscribe. Didn't go for their card either as effin Rupert M boils my pi55. H

You can continue watching all the free channels with no problem except for channel 5. However you can buy a card from Sky for a one off payment of £20 that allows you watch Ch 5. We set up using Sky satellite when using the caravan.
