Try the gear lever bush on the top of the box.

Clutch fluid level low - air drawn into system causing reduced clutch throw?

Any odd noises with engine running and clutch depressed? (DMF/pressure plate collapse).

Are the four bolts tight that hold the gear lever assembly to the top of the 'box?

The clutch is on its way out and will need replacing but no extra noise, cheers

ok gents it seems to be the "ball unit" above the bush has broken down are there any repairs or is it a replacement unit? as it looks like factory rivet thing keeps it all together.

                    This is the diagram

Hello Mark. Whereabouts, other than "In a house", are you located?

Hi Mark. Reason I asked, was to see if there were any g/box specialists near you, who could supply a good used replacement stick and turret. Yours may be the same as a Mk3 Hilux 4x4. No one comes to mind for 4x4 in Bucks, but you could try D Beaumont g/boxes in West Yorks, or Intergear int the West Mids. Equicar in Wolverhampton are a good 4x4 breakers, and may have used 4Runner boxes. Check the price, new from Toyota, first, though, because they may be cheap anyway....Good luck.....Mick.
