  • How much do I lengthen my panhard rod by?

    Hello all
Just a quick we question for the experts, Im getting sick of my truck sagging down on the drivers side after my suspension lift (that I did 1 year ago)
Have put it down to my panhard rods too short because of two reasons, one it was a pig to get back in originally, having to weigh down and jack up on one side to fit, and two the fact thats its obviously too short as the wheels are 20mm further out the drivers side than the passengers side.

Rambling aside, going to take it into my work and weld a spacer in the rod but how much longer do I make it?
Is there a set length for the extension or just make it so it fits nice and relaxed when trucks sitting unloaded?

Cheers all, great to have such a helpfull community to turn to when in need.
If I wasn't in another country ild shout you all a beer for the amount of times you've helped me out
Its a new truck, Because every parts been replaced

Its not easy to state a size, all I do on most trucks is cut the bar in half, remount it if you've taken it off, then I have 6-8"ish long solid bar that I slide inside the bar, then line the two halves up and work the bar back into the other side so its middlish and then give it a good weld up, run a seam round each join of rod and bar, if you want you can then fill in the gap with more welding and clean it all up and it'll look factory finish.

Hello Dale. I don't want to second guess Tony, cause he's a Guru. One thing that he didn't ask you was, when you fitted your springs, were they "sided"? Some come with the drivers side slightly longer. Fitting them the wrong way would cause a disproportionate sag. Also, as far as I know, having too short a Panhard rod would cause the axle to sit further out from the centreline of the truck, to the drivers side, but not prevent the truck from sitting level.

i cut mine and welded a suitable sized bolt to one end and a nut to the other. a second nut acts as a locknut - makes it easy to set the axle centred and the adjustment allows for future changes.

the pics are a bit blurry but show the welded bolt and lock nut.

Cheers mick, Wasn't any noticeable difference in the size of the springs when I installed them and I just checked the tags attached to them (somehow tags still attached and readable) and theres nothing to say left or right so heres hoping their the same

Will take it into work over the next week to modify and let you know how I get on anyway, cheers all
