Auto locking hubs

My mrs is complaining that when under load, the auto locking front hubs on her pickup are making loud ping/clicking noises.
Obviously they are jumping teeth, Can I remove the springs in them and leave them permanently locked?
Or can I get a manual on/off conversion?
I don't know what make they are, probably generic Jap things.

If ya can afford to swap them out for some manuals go for it, autos can be a pig and never want to work properly.
Only down side of manuals if making sure you remember to hop out and engage them BEFORE driving into crap!
But they will never fail or let you down like autos
