I was recently tempted by a cheap £1800 5 door 2000 Patrol 3.0.
So I google about for the vehicle and find in Australia it's known as the grenade as it just blows up....
The 2000 and 2001 models hole pistons because of the air flow meter or dodgy injectors or fuel pump issues. The next model without a Renault engine is better apparently. To be fair most makes with the first common rail diesels around the period 2000-2001 are a little unreliable I guess.
A bit of a let down as I always thought the Patrols were nearly as tough as a Landcruiser, although since Nissan have become joined to Renault (IMHO one of the most unreliable cars out there) I've removed them from my possible car choice.
Thank god for google.
