  • Any RC Gurus out there?

Bought a Tesco's Mud Slinger a while back for the boy, but tested it last night and the steering is pathetic at best and non existant at worst.
It's going back, and No Miss, I do not want another one....
So where do I go to get a half decent RC truck?
He's only 5, so a petrol one is a probably one step away - having said that he controlled puddlesurfer's a lot better than I did... but that's another story.
    Any thoughts?
Bear in mind it's 3 days and counting.

Try and find a local model shop mate, they will have a selection of pre-built or kit form ones in, might be fun to build one up with the little`un!

As good as the petrol one`s are I`d recommend going with an electric one for the sake of the yougun too, the petrol one`s can be temperamental, and it`s no fun stood explaining to a child why you have just driven somewhere to play with a car that wont work!

Also if you buy from a decent model shop, the car you get will be upgradable in the future, loads of hop up parts available! Ball race bearings, high torque motors, speed controllers etc. Add`s to the fun and builds it into a hobby

There's your problem !!!you should have known anything with lame rover on it was gonna be shite

After buying and having loads of those type bought for my boy they work well(ok) on carpet and anywhere else you can forget it.

TBH you are going to need to go to your local rc/model shop. You may end up paying a bit more but their advice should be golden.

Yeah, Tamiya. I've had about a million and still have one knocking around. Grasshopper or similar is good for a kid and fun for his dad to 'help' him build.

Tamiya are a great make I have a clodbuster which is 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steer . As others have said there are so many upgrades for them mine has s tubular chassis from the states called clodzilla ,Google it and see what comes up . My mates 3 young sons play with it a lot and have never broken it , and tamiya spares always seem resonable priced compared to other rc makes like kyosho and losi which I also have
Always up to my neck in it

There used to be a decent model shop in Stourport. Used to use him for aircraft bits, but I remember him having a pretty large selection of cars. Right on your doorstep too!

Yokomo, Schumacher or Kyosho were the toys I played with. Used to race these things as a kid, Tamiyas were O.K but were more toys than race machines, almost as expensive as running a Surf.

Most of the above will come as a kit and you chose the batteries, motor,RC gear & servos yourself. Expensive but good fun.

                        Cheers

I'm not guru, and it's been many years since I raced and played with RC cars.
But, I would say that if you buy a decent battery one then make sure you buy several batteries for it, and some sort of fast charger.

Unless technology has moved on a lot the average battery lasts 10-20 minutes.
That's not a long time for a kid to play.

With a couple of batteries you can be playing with one while charging the other (assuming you are near a plug or spare car battery)
It used to be the case that the standard trickle charger would need all night to charge and give 15 minutes of driving.

Make sure you ask about batteries, chargers and stuff at the model shop.

                            Hi Wolfracer,

Any good model shop should be able to help, get a couple of extra batteries and a fast charger or you'll be using it for 10 mins then charging it for hours!

Kids love the Nitro ones(like mine) 'cos of the noise and smoke but they can be a pain in the a$$ to get them running - if you want to spend serious money you can get proper petrol ones that once are set up dont need touching!

                            Hope you're well!
