  • Temp Gauge Mod

Having a potential pressure cooker and no REAL idea of how hot the engine is running I think it is about time that I looked into some accurate form of temperature gauge.
Have any of you carried out this mod?
    http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/tempgauge.htm

I like this one as everything is kept "standard" ie no gauge pods,no temperature sensors to fit etc, however I am concerned about the potential of me melting the circuit when I have to go diving in with my solder iron.

Did you get it to work as they show in the temperature comparison pics?
If you have done this mod any hints or tips that I should consider.

The other option I was considering was to buy one of these kits http://rspec.co.uk/performance-gauge...perature-gauge

Although the digital dial off of R-spec will actually give a reading in numbers having the analogue pointer may actually be easier to read and see the pointer position.

As ever your input is valued

    Cheers

fit a separate gauge, its easier, and if you put it in the right place, easy to see

The only problem with analogue dials is that it will mis-read unless directly in front of you. If my missus is driving I constantly think the truck's running too hot.

I would have preferred a digital one but couldn't find one subtle enough to look stock. I used little green covers on the bulbs in my gauges to match the factory lights.

If you are anything like me I would get one with an audible alarm.

Sent from the iPad you "lost"

have a look at the digital ones i used on lexurf v. they come in green, blue and red and have a red warning lamp when the kettles boiling.

they are accurate - checked with a thermocouple test gauge at work.

you could hide the gauge and have a letterbox type slot just showing the digital readout

They'd look ok with a black bezel. Do they have a wire connected to the dash lights to dim them at night ?

Wot my gauges look like but then i like stuff "in my face"
i belive most of these gauges have a wire to connect to panel lights for dimming, these did buy i left it unconnected as there's no dimmer on the panel lights anyway (apart from the plasma's) it said on the gauge instructions to connect this wire to head light circuit for a dim or if you dont want em dim connect it to ground/earth

Thats understandable. Same thing goes for analogue clocks.

                      That is mighty impressive POPEYE.
I think I have flown in twin engine aircraft with less "dialage" than that.Like the ambient lighting also.

think there was a choice of bezel colours - i just took the matt silver

yes they can be connected to dim at night but i didn't bother, the blue light is pretty soft.

Had a look at the Lexurf V thread did get kind of distracted

Are those gauges R-Spec also can't remember seeing a brand name in the thread ?

                              For nothing

Still leaning towards doing the resistor mod if only I could find the right resistors where I don't have to buy a 100 of each!!!!!!
