  • Rubbing sound- Worse when cornering

When driving at slow speeds i can hear a rubbing 'voom voom voom' sound. I expect this is because the discs are warped? It happens even without braking though.

I changed the pads recently and the discs did look a bit scored, so i'll changed them along with the pads.

Thing is, the noise is louder when cornering. I'm just wondering why this is, because it's not like the calipers move independently of the discs or anything, so why would the noise be worse with the wheels turned?

If any noises from the front end persist once i've changed the discs and pads, then what else will need checking?

    Thanks.

Could it be a wheel bearing?
I had one go on an ls400 I had and that got worse while cornering

Does it get worse cornering both ways? If only one then I'd be thinking wheel bearing.

Er i think it's both ways. I'll check tomorrow. There's also an occasional knocking noise when turning, but it's not the bump stop grinding noise, it's different.

Oh, and i've got manual hubs which are unlocked so the drive gear isn't turning.

And the sound comes with or without acceleration.

What about bronze bushes/track rod ends?

          Thanks.

Jack up the front, spin wheels, check for lateral play and noises etc, use a bar and check for play at ball joints and steering linkages. Check for debri trapped in brake backing plate. I had a wee stone stuck in there once and it was silent for ages, then would make a horrible noise and then go quiet again as it moved about or got worn away.

Vauxhall changed a drive shaft on my old Astra Coupe as it was making similar sounds... I picked it up, drove off, problem still there. Eventually I noticed the deflector at the back of the disc was bent, touching the edge of the disc when turning.... 2 second job to bend back. VX wouldn't give me my money back for the shaft though, as "they had to break it to get it off" robbing hoods.

Check your cv joints! My 2.4 made similar noises before i changed the drivers side cv, no grease left in it at all!
