i bought 2 oil filters from e-bay some time back - advertised as oem - used 1 and kept the other for a spare. they both had the drain back valve on the inlet side.
changed the oil last weekend and used the spare filter. started the truck and noticed it didn't sound right . turns out the drain back valve was stuck in the filter - it was letting a limited amount of oil through, showing 25psi oil pressure instead of the normal 70psi. i only noticed because the engine oil temp gauge wasn't rising as it normally does - eventually found the fault by screwing a spare oil gauge onto the filter block to show in and out pressures.
it wont have done any damage sitting idling with 25psi but anyone who fitted one of these and drove off down the m/way would be in trouble and would never know why the engine was starved of oil at higher rpm
in 35 years working on cars trucks and plant iv'e never seen this fault before.
