Is anyone doing big milages in their surf?

I currently run two cars, a Subaru Forester as my everyday car and the surf for fun/ back up vehicle . I had been thinking about just running the surf, but a bit worried in case anything goes wrong. It is a 2.4 with about 180,000 km on the clock- runs great (did quite a few miles and some heavy work last summer) and never had any problems but just not sure about having it as my only vehicle. I am probably doing about 20,000 miles a year for mostly work and my own running about.

I had thought of getting a Gen 3 and just having that, but getting another unknown vehicle is not always as good as sticking with one you know- end of my ramblings

I would be interested to hear from everyone ?

    Thanks

    Tim

        got a ln130 2.4 1993 i bought it 3ish 18/03 1999
        with 145.000kms
        now got 254.267kms
i drive everywhere, tow, off-road, drive frequently south west of Ireland to Norwich no problems, the biggest thing is done today, the fuel pump.

Don't listen to those petrol fume , ozone poluters . My 2.4 is running strong and I've had it over 2 years . Just the normal wear and tear issues like bearings and new battery.

That gives me a lot more confidence. I know you always hear bad stories of 2.4s but there must be an equal ammount if not more of good ones. I decided I will fit a transmission cooler and a separate water temp sensor/ gauge if I do just go with the surf.

I am not expecting it to go for ever doing big milage, but a couple of years and then perhaps back as a play thing.

What mpg would you get from a 2.7 petrol gen 3?

                Cheers

                  What are you talking aout?

The last 2.4 I parted out had nearly 300,000 Km's on it!

Service it regularly, especially oil changes, if its sound now, it'll go for ages yet if you treat it nicely.

Anything expensive you might break or wear out is easily available used on here.

maybe so but you have to rev the tits off them to keep up in traffic - its a slug - plus they are struggling at m/way speeds and you always need a spare £1000 for the inevitable cloud of steam.

the 2.7 is a much better truck for daily high mileage use and is much more refined to drive.

pssst - maybe i'm a wee bit biased being a petrol burner

It's useful having a runaround as backup...

drove mine for 5 years as an oil burner with no problems and the engine is in a forum members truck now - still running as far as i know.

didn't do high mileages though only a work commute. for 20,000mls a year i'd still have the 2.7. after being in vinces 3rd gen i was converted in 20 mins.
