You can get a bit carried away with the paranoia of HDD's and writing the sectors to zero. It really isn't all that important, unless there is super sensitive Enigma cracking gear on there.
A simple quick format and removal of partitions is by far the easiest way of killing all manner of malicious script originating from your gambling/porn addiction.
With all O/S from XP/Vista/W7 (the latter being brilliant-Vista being shit) if the drive is bolloxed in any way, it wont go on. It will just hang.

Dont be frightened. If you can work on these fecking horrid trucks-you can sort a puter out no problem.

Cheers folks... it is geek stuff and beyond my level of geekery... Thrifty I tried those... I did find a demo that seemed to work, but they want $700 for the licence.. it is for a customer anyway.. that should have taken backups

At such moments, I always think of a good tool that my friend recommended to me three years ago. Thanks to free registry cleaner, I managed to save my computer and its internal memory from garbage and unnecessary files. Over time, the cache is collected very much and so the computer runs slowly and sometimes freezes very much. This tool is very helpful in such cases and I like that it is absolutely free. It is very convenient and useful to have one because an unexpected situation can happen at any time.
