All really helpful stuff, guys. Thank you very much.

The nice man from the RAC is with it as we speak so fingers crossed. Thank goodness for surprise cover we didn't know we had!

Bet after this you will make sure RAC is renewed annually! Does sound like battery though or a starter motor problem.

Spot on the money. Apparently one of the batteries was flat. It's home, panic over!

You may want to read up on the twin battery set up as I have seen posts that say if one is dead you are better replacing both as the older may kill the new battery. I'll see if I can find a link

The RAC bloke did say that it seemed that the dead one was draining the live one which tallies with what you're saying.

Seeing as it's not the immobiliser (as you correctly said) use the £100 to buy a pair of batteries. It's not best practice to change just one.

It's like you read my mind - we've just discussed this and agreed that this is the right way to go. I've had a quick look into the twin battery set up and general opinion seems to be replace both.

I'm quite pleased it's just the battery to be honest. Anything very much more complex then that and we'd be a bit stuck. I anticipate that we'll be learning a lot about maintaining the truck ourselves in the next few months...

Make sure the alternator is putting out enough to charge the batteries and that the alternator belt is adjusted correctly or you will be forking out for new batteries again soon....sorry

The RAC man didn't voice any concerns about the alternator but I'll definitely have it checked out when we replace the batteries.

He said that the battery was losing charge whilst disconnected.

Cool then always nice having a second opinion wouldn't want many to waste money on two sets (4) batteries all because of a loose belt.

RAC cover has paid for itself already,it is not nice when your pride and joy lets you done, but these are robust trucks (generally).
All part of the joy of running something a little bit different.

Apparently we have RAC cover as part of the premium we pay on the bank account so it was a massively nice surprise when the bloke on the phone told us we were covered. It's a full package as well.

Brilliant tip, madcampbell - thank you.

                            Quickfit maybe are OK.

                            But Kwik fit are better.
