  • Another stupid computer question

I know I ask alot of stupid computer questions , but I just can not work these things very well . I have asked before at off road meets and such but when I get home I have forgotten the answer .
This is the question : If I find a picture/thumbnail on a site , ie the forum , how do I save it to my computer ?
I have tried to 'save picture as' and 'save target as ' but when I go to view the picture , it says 'no preview available' and thats all I get . I have tried to put them in my photo impression thing and also save to my pictures file . I am getting a bit fed up . I see you guys coping and pasting pictures and even adding bubble captions to them . I have tried to find info in a book but it is not mentioned .
Can anyone do a step by step guide for me so I can print it , if I can , and try it

You are going the right way about it Rick.

When you see the picture you want to save, right click on it, select save picture as, then navigate in the dialog box to where you want to save it and click save. The only thing to watch out is that you save it in a format that you can read. On windows you should be able to see .jpg, .bmp, .gif however you may not be able to see .png except in internet explorer.

You may not be able to see the picture because for some reason you don't have a picture viewer assigned to it. The best way then is first off to make sure that the picture saved with no corruption is to open up microsoft photo editor and use the file open menu item to open the file you just saved. If that doesn't work then you have a problem with the PC saving files and corrupting them or you are saving them in a format that you don't have a viewer for. What version of Windows are you using.

    Hope that this helps

I have been saving the pictures as jpeg format , but this does not work . . This is happening on both this PC and the laptop . So I know its not the computer at fault , its me .

Where do I find Microsoft photo editor ? Both computers are running on Microsoft XP , which I believe is the latest type .

          Rick.

You should find photo editor in c:/program files/common files/microsoft shared/photoed/

or you can search for photoed.exe.

If you want you can email me one of the offending pictures to harveyaj11@hotmail.com and I'll see if there is anything wrong.

          Cheers

Rick try right clicking the file while holding down the shift key (up arrow key below caps lock key) you will see the "open with" option which should have viewers that will open the file correctly, choose to always open files of this type with this program.

Just a word of caution, if you tick the box to "always use this program" when opening a particular file type, its not so easy to change this choice later. I reccomend leaving this box unticked the first few times you open a particular type of file, only when you are happy that you have found the best program to perform your desired task should you tick the box to make your choice permenant (well permenantish, can be undone, but not as easily).

Damn, I new there was a way to do this. Just goes to show that I've forgotten more about MS products than I ever learnt in the first place.

I must be mad, I've just started studying for the Cisco Certified Networking Associate exam and I can't remember half of what a computer will do.

                    Cheers

That does nothing different . After pressing that button 5 times it warned me about locking keys !
Still no further forward , just getting a bigger headache . I am still taking the Ibo'propane' tablets for me ribs so they must be wearing off , to get a headache .

Right , being playing about with photo impression4 as can not get MS photo editor to do anything .

I basically screen capture the picture and have to edit to suit . As you can see I done my Avatar first . I did a profile picture but when I reduced the size it has gone blurry , is there any cure or is that just the way the pictures go .

No - it shdnt go blurry when you reduce the size, although the picture will sometime goes blurry if you enlarge it.

If you need a fresh copy of the pool pic then go to my website - the BBQ stuff is up there.
