It dosn't really change much, so he fawked up, to late to change anything now.

The headlines are lazy and sensationalist as ever, you don't become a bad pilot just because your ticket is out of date. I bet he flew and enjoyed flying like that whenever he got the chance, this time it went wrong and he got caught out.

I remember reading the AAIB report a couple of years ago which alluded to the same causes as the court (despite the beeb suggesting it didn't find a cause).
I'm sure he enjoyed pushing the limits in the air, as he did in a car. However, he had two kids on board, so IMO in this case a little circumspection would have been a better choice.
